GPS Survey Planned for Slums Across Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, Including 23 Newly Merged Villages

Pune, 22 April 2026: The Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) has decided to conduct a GPS-based survey of slums across Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad, including 23 villages recently merged into the municipal limits. The initiative aims to build a comprehensive and accurate database of slum settlements.

Through this survey, authorities will be able to identify the exact number of slums, their geographical locations, and their current conditions. This information is expected to improve planning and bring more clarity to ongoing and upcoming rehabilitation projects.

The SRA was set up around a decade ago with the goal of making Pune and Pimpri-Chinchwad slum-free. Recently, the state government approved revised building regulations, which has led to a rise in proposals for slum rehabilitation projects.

However, officials noted that detailed and updated information about slums, especially in newly added villages, is currently lacking. This gap has made it difficult to plan and implement redevelopment projects efficiently.

To address this, the survey work has been assigned to Maharashtra Remote Sensing Application Centre (MRSAC). SRA CEO Satish Khadke said the GPS-based survey will provide reliable and current data on slums, helping speed up the rehabilitation process and improve execution.
