Group discussion on waste management held at VPNBVM

PUNE: As part of the different projects undertaken by Vidya Pratishthan’s New Bal Vikas Mandir (VPNBVM), Pimpli, under the British Council International School Award (ISA), students of Std IX participated in a Group Discussion on Waste  Management. 

15 students were divided into 3 groups of 5 students each. Each group was allotted a country - Chile, India and Germany. These 3 countries were chosen due to the fact that Chile ranks among the lowest countries in waste management practices, India ranks average, while Germany is among the top countries in the  World for efficient Waste Management system. 

The Group Discussion was organised in the school auditorium and all the students of Std IX A, B and C witnessed the same as audience. All the three groups had done a lot of research about the statistics, waste management practices followed in these countries, as well as the advantages and disadvantages of those practices. 

A short video was shown before the Group Discussion, which helped to create awareness about the enormous nature of the problem of the waste management. Every student spoke about a different aspect related to the problem.

The students also asked questions to the members of the other groups, which were answered satisfactorily. Students from the audience also interacted with the participants.  

Manjusha Mokashi was Chairperson for the Group Discussion . All the students took a pledge at the end of the Session’.

The ISA Co-ordinator Nilima Kondru chose Sai Nimbalkar as the best speaker. She also congratulated the entire  team and applauded them for their efforts. The team of science teachers who guided the participants for the Group Discussion comprised of Mokashi, Karuna Patil, Deepali Vedpathak and Sandhya Kudale.
