Pune, 16 June 2025: Several parts of Pune district witnessed significant rainfall over the past 24 hours, strengthening the monsoon’s hold over the region. Lonavala recorded the highest rainfall at 123 mm, followed by Girivan (84 mm) and Bhor (80 mm). Other areas like NDA (46.5 mm), Lavale (44 mm), Pashan (42.5 mm), Talegaon (32.5 mm), Shivajinagar (30.5 mm), and Chinchwad (28 mm) also received steady showers.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast generally cloudy skies with light to moderate rain until Thursday, with the possibility of reduced showers by the weekend. An orange alert, indicating very heavy rainfall, has been issued for Pune, Kolhapur, and Satara, while Raigad is under a red alert for extremely heavy rain on Monday.

Meteorological officials attribute the continued rainfall to an active cyclonic circulation over South Madhya Maharashtra, which is likely to maintain the current weather conditions till June 18. The southwest monsoon is also expected to advance further this week, covering the entire state shortly.

Citizens are advised to remain cautious while travelling, especially in low-lying areas prone to waterlogging and traffic disruptions due to sudden heavy showers.

Forecast:

  • 16-17 June: Generally cloudy skies; light to moderate rain very likely.

  • 18-21 June: Partly cloudy skies turning cloudy by afternoon or evening; light rain very likely each day.
