IT employees at IT Park, Hinjewadi, have stepped in to save the life of a critically injured child from the state involved in a road accident. Leveraging crowdfunding and corporate social responsibility (CSR) funds, the employees ensured timely medical intervention for the severely injured minor.
Fifteen-year-old Vishal Kumar sustained serious injuries on the morning of January 25 around 10 AM when a wheel of a goods vehicle ran over his leg while he was selling balloons and toys at a road in IT Park, Hinjewadi. With insufficient funds, his family was unable to secure treatment at any private hospital.
Upon learning about the incident, members of the Forum for IT Employees (FITE) launched a crowdfunding campaign, quickly raising ₹2.5–3 lakh. An additional ₹2.5–3 lakh was secured from Infosys’ CSR fund to cover the child’s medical expenses. Using these combined resources, Sancheti Hospital performed a successful surgery, saving Vishal Kumar’s life and preserving his otherwise severely damaged leg.
The initiative by Hinjewadi IT employees has drawn widespread appreciation for their swift action in supporting a child in need. FITE has also appealed to the state’s Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, urging that in emergencies, treatment should be provided immediately based on a patient’s Aadhaar card, without requiring income proofs or other documentation.
Commenting on the incident, Pawanjit Mane, President of the Forum for IT Employees, said, “We contacted the hospital and reached out to the family, determined that we had to help this child at all costs. When we learned he was being denied admission everywhere, we immediately stepped in to ensure he received the care he needed.”
