IAF nod for multi-level car parking at Pune airport

PUNE: The much-awaited multi-level car parking (MLCP) at Pune airport will soon become reality. Airport Authority of India (AAI) recently got a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the Indian Air Force (IAF) for the MLCP and arranging for alternate parking near the airport. The work will start by November.

City-based Pebbles Infra-Tech Private Ltd will develop the multi-level car parking with integrated commercial facilities on a DBOM Basis (construction-cum-licence to operate and maintain) at Pune airport. Currently, Pune airport handles more than 50 lakh passengers annually. The proposed MLCP will be of international standards with integrated commercial facilities and cover an area of 2.5 acres and provide parking facilities for 1,000 vehicles in line with the proposed expansion of terminal building with a handling capacity of 12 to 13 million.

“We are committed to facilitating passenger amenities. Further, we are continuously working on all passenger facilities including multi-level car parking. However, areas are being specified as we have multiple options,” said Pune airport Director Ajay Kumar.

“The new multi-level parking facility will be constructed at parking number one.

The parking lot will serve several purposes. Once the building is constructed, it will take far less space compared to now and the number of vehicles that can be parked will also increase,” he said. The Pune airport is civil enclave and needs approval from IAF for any further expansion.

“The company will be responsible for construction, operation and maintenance of the facility. The expenditure for this project is estimated to be Rs 120 crore. The facility will also have commercial outlets. The amount of this project is high, so the AAI will also pay some part of the amount for this project,” said Kumar.

Of the two parking lots, parking 2 has been converted into a pick-up point. Parking 1 is used for all two- and four-wheelers including airline staff and CISF staff.
