Pune: Around 1,690 students received their degree certificates from the Indira Gandhi National Open University (IGNOU), Pune Regional office at the 32nd convocation ceremony held at Chandrashekhar Auditorium at the Inter-University Centre of Astrophysics and Astronomy (IUCAA) on Wednesday.
The main convocation function was held at IGNOU Main Campus in New Delhi, where the Vice President of India, M Venkaiah Naidu was present as the chief guest. Vice-Chancellor of Mahatma Phule Krishi Vidyapeeth, Rahuri, KP Viswanatha, was present as the guest of honour at the Regional Convocation at Pune.
The convocation ceremony took place at 53 regional centres across the country.
“The agricultural sector is getting more complex due to globalisation, the impact of climate change, entry of corporate sector in agriculture value-chain, expanding demand for processed food and need for post-harvest technology,” said Viswanatha.
He further emphasised that it is the responsibility of all agricultural universities and also universities like IGNOU to provide such human resource. Kalpana Gupte, officiating Regional Director of IGNOU, Pune presented the Regional Director’s report.
