Pune, March 19: The India Meteorological Department’s (IMD) forecast of rain on Gudi Padwa proved accurate as several parts of Pune witnessed light showers on Wednesday afternoon, bringing a sudden shift in weather on the festive day.
Around 12:45 pm, areas along Sinhagad Road experienced light rainfall accompanied by thunder. The city, which began the day with sunny yet partly cloudy conditions, saw a rapid build-up of clouds by afternoon, followed by brief spells of drizzle.
Rainfall activity was also reported in suburbs including Kothrud, Warje, and Shivane, while the Khadakwasla area witnessed small hailstones. The sudden showers caused brief disruptions to outdoor celebrations, even as residents welcomed the respite from rising temperatures.
The IMD had earlier predicted light to moderate rainfall at isolated locations across Pune and surrounding regions. In line with the forecast, scattered showers were recorded across parts of the city.
Following the rainfall, a noticeable drop in temperature brought cooler conditions, offering relief from the recent heat.
