The deceased has been identified as Vishal Nagnath Kamble, a resident of Laxminagar in Yerwada. Police have booked Akash Satish Chandaliya (30), a resident of Jai Jawan Nagar, Yerwada, and Deepak Sanjay Reddy (27), a resident of Indrayani Colony, Kamshet, for murder. Both accused have been arrested.

According to the police, Kamble, Chandaliya, and Reddy were lodged in the same barrack (CJ Department, Barrack No. 1). Investigators said Kamble allegedly harassed and verbally abused the two accused, causing prolonged mental distress. This led Chandaliya to plan an attack on Kamble.

On Monday morning (December 15), Chandaliya and Reddy allegedly assaulted Kamble while he was asleep, striking his head with a sharp-edged piece of stone flooring. Other inmates panicked and fled the barrack, after which jail staff rushed Kamble to Sassoon Hospital for emergency treatment. He remained critical and died four days later.

Initially, police had registered a case of attempt to murder. After Kamble’s death, the charges were upgraded to murder. Senior Police Inspector Anjum Bagwan is leading the further investigation.
