Khadakwasla Dam Water Release Increased; Pune on Alert as Heavy Rain Continues

Citizens along riverbanks urged to stay cautious; PMC activates 24x7 flood control rooms

Pune, 19 June 2025: Due to continuous heavy rainfall in the district, the water discharge from Pune’s Khadakwasla Dam has been increased. On June 19, at 1 PM, around 2,000 cusecs of water was released into the riverbed, and this is expected to increase step by step as rainfall continues. By 6 PM today, the discharge will rise to 4,345 cusecs.

Authorities have sounded sirens at various points along the river and issued alerts asking people to avoid entering the riverbed. The State Emergency Operation Centre has also warned citizens living near riverbanks to stay alert and move cattle to safer areas.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an Orange Alert for the next 24 hours for Pune Ghats and Satara Ghats, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall. Residents are advised to move livestock to safer locations and follow all precautionary measures to avoid any untoward incidents.

In response, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has activated 24x7 flood control rooms at its main building and all 15 ward offices. Citizens can reach the Disaster Management Department at:

  • Total Storage: 8.68 TMC (29.78%)

  • On the same day last year: 3.62 TMC (12.43%)
