Pune, 19 June 2025: Due to continuous heavy rainfall, the Khadakwasla Dam is currently filled up to 75 percent of its capacity. As a precaution, about 2000 cusecs of water will be released into the Mutha river at 1 pm today (Thursday), according to a press statement from the Central Flood Control Cell’s Monitoring Officer, Shweta Kunhade.
Between 6 am and 11 am today, over 40 mm of rain has been recorded in the dam’s catchment area. The India Meteorological Department has already issued a 'red alert' for Pune district, warning of further heavy rain.
In light of this, the administration has appealed to residents of Pune city and surrounding areas, especially those living along the banks of the Mutha river, to stay alert. There is also a possibility of increasing the discharge volume if inflow continues to rise.
The Pune Municipal Corporation, District Administration, Police Department, PMRDA and Mahavitaran have been directed to remain on high alert and take necessary safety measures. Citizens are requested to remove animals and materials from the riverbed immediately and not to pay heed to rumors.
In case of an emergency, people should contact local authorities and follow official instructions carefully.
