Pune: Under Slum Rehabilitation Authority (SRA) scheme, the government provides every eligible residential slum structure owner with an alternative tenement measuring 25 sq m, preferably at the same site, irrespective of the area of slum structure.

But according to Krantiveer Jhopadpatti Sanghatana (KJS), only 50 per cent people living in slums are rehabilitated, while the other half still live in slums.

In a press conference arranged by the organisation on Monday, Rajesh Pardeshi, President of KJS, said, “We had filed a complaint to Lauraj Mali, who was the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of SRA, in which we collected all evidence stating that 50 per cent of houses are distributed to the people who do not live in slums, rather than allotting houses to people living in slums. We waited for a year but we did not hear from Mali.”

“Just a few months back, Pandurang Mali was appointed as the new CEO of SRA and we reminded him about the same. But he overlooked the evidence submitted earlier and rejected the complaint without hearing us,’’ Pardeshi said.

Pardeshi also alleged that SRA is in the clutches of builders and it is purely a scam under the guise of slum rehabilitation of slum dwellers.  “We will approach the court now as we have already approached ministers and police as well,” Pardeshi added.
