Pune: The Pune Mahanagar Parivahan Mahamandal Limited (PMPML) has pressed into service more than 469 additional buses that will ply to clear the extra rush of passengers during the Ganesh festival. These buses will ply till September 5.
The authority has decided to run extra buses also at night as ‘yatra service’. An additional charge of Rs 5 will be levied on the fares and these buses will start plying on roads after 10 pm, a PMPML official said.
However, travel passes will be valid only till midnight, the official added.
According to the official, due to the festival, the internal roads in the city will be closed by the city police to avoid traffic jams and the buses will ply on alternative roads.
“From August 31 to September 5, the buses will run on Swargate-Deccan-Shivajinagar-PMC-Pune Station-Pulgate-Swargate on the circular road. The buses will ply every 10 minutes from 6 pm to 2 am. Citizens can board the buses from specific bus terminals in the city to reach their destinations,” said an official of PMPML.
