The latest action follows an FDA order issued on August 27 over alleged irregularities involving the packaging, storage, documentation and recall of Reactin Plus Tablets. The department had also flagged unauthorised claims on the packaging of the Schedule H prescription drug and several deficiencies at the warehouse.

The FDA withdrew its earlier proceedings and initiated a fresh process in compliance with the Bombay High Court's directions. It issued a revised show-cause notice to the company on September 4, to which Cipla submitted a written reply on September 11. The company was subsequently given a personal hearing on September 21.

After examining the company's response, submissions made during the hearing, inspection findings, available records and applicable legal provisions, the Assistant Commissioner (Drugs), Division 3, FDA Pune, passed the fresh cancellation order on October 1.
