Maharashtra summers may get 1 degree Celsius hotter this summer: IMD report

PUNE: The summer months in Maharashtra are expected to be harsh with day temperature upto one degree Celsius above normal in the next three months. As per the India Meterological Department, there is a 40 percent probability of above normal maximum temperatures in the Core Heat Wave (HW) areas that includes Maharashtra.

The weather predictions were made in the 'Seasonal Outlook for Temperature during April to June, 2020', released in Monday. 

The report states that slightly above normal frequency of heat wave conditions is likely in the core HW zone during the season.

"There is about 40 percent probability of maximum temperatures in the Core HW zone during April to June 2020 to be above normal. Core HW zone covers the states of Punjab, Himachal Pradesh,

Uttarakhand, Delhi, Haryana, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Bihar,

Jharkhand, West Bengal, Orissa and Telangana and meteorological subdivisions of Marathawada,

Madhya Maharashtra and Coastal Andhra Pradesh. This also indicated that there will be more frequent heat waves in the area," said the report.

"Rest of the country is likely to experience normal maximum temperatures. The season averaged minimum temperatures also are likely to be warmer than normal by more than 1 degree Celsius over East and West Rajasthan and Gujarat region. It is likely to be warmer than normal by 0.5 degree to 1 degree over Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh and Delhi, East and West Uttar Pradesh, East and West Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, Jharkhand, Orissa, Saurashtra and Kutch, Konkan and Goa, Madhya Maharashtra, Marathawada, Vidharbha, North and South Interior Karnataka, Coastal Karnataka, Rayalaseema and Kerala," stated the report.
