Man duped on OLX while buying car

ST CORRESPONDENT

PUNE: A 28-year-old man from Mundhwa, who was looking to buy a car on online portal ‘OLX’, was allegedly cheated to the tune of Rs 86,500 by an online fraudster on July 27. A case of cheating has been lodged by Harshwardhan Bhandari.

As per information given by the Mundhwa police, Bhandari came across an advertisement of a car on the online portal. As Bhandari was interested in the deal, he contacted the seller of the car who told him that the car is with the cargo department of the airport. The seller convinced Bhandari to deposit Rs 86,500 so that it can  be released.

Bhandari fell for the trap and paid the money to the seller. Later, when Bhandari asked the seller to show him the car, the accused started avoiding him and also refused to take his phone calls, following which Bhandari approached Mundhwa police station and lodged a case of cheating. In June, the Cyber Crime Cell of the city police had arrested three youths who were cheating people by taking advance money from buyers interested in buying cars. The accused forged the documents of the actual owners of cars and used the same to crack the deal with car buyers before cheating them.
