MIDC Cancels Hinjawadi Road Tenders Due to Land Acquisition Delays

Infrastructure projects worth ₹57 crore stalled as coordination issues between agencies delay land acquisition in Hinjawadi

Pune, 28 June 2025: The Maharashtra Industrial Development Corporation (MIDC) has been forced to cancel tenders for key road projects in Hinjawadi due to incomplete land acquisition. Earlier this year, MIDC had proposed infrastructure projects worth ₹650 crore to address traffic congestion and urbanization in the IT hub. However, due to delays in land acquisition, tenders worth nearly ₹57 crore have now been scrapped.

The cancelled works include two crucial projects: six-laning of the Shivaji Chowk to Smashan Bhoomi road, and the construction of a flyover from Laxmi Chowk to Hinjawadi. Tenders for both projects had already been floated, but lack of acquired land stalled the execution process.

Hinjawadi continues to suffer from poor infrastructure despite rapid population growth and a high inflow of IT professionals. Regular traffic jams across all three phases of the IT Park have become a daily struggle. In an effort to ease congestion, MIDC had planned two flyovers and the expansion of a key road, but those plans have hit a roadblock due to administrative delays.

The lack of coordination between MIDC and the Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority (PMRDA) has been cited as a key reason behind the land acquisition delays. Meetings with affected villagers are ongoing, but there is no clear timeline on when the process will be completed. MIDC officials have clarified that a new round of tenders will only be issued once the land acquisition is done.

The cancelled projects include the Shivaji Chowk to Smashan Bhoomi road (100 meters long, estimated cost ₹17.81 crore) and the Laxmi Chowk flyover (720 meters long, estimated cost ₹39.21 crore). With fresh tenders on hold, there are growing concerns that these much-needed infrastructure upgrades may face long-term delays.
