Minister’s brother Sunil Kamble is PMC panel’s new chairman

ST CORRESPONDENT

Pune: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) corporator Sunil Kamble was elected PMC Standing Committee Chairman on Tuesday.

He is brother of MLA of Pune Cantonment constituency, Dilip Kamble, who is also State Minister for Social Justice and Special Assistance.

This is the second consecutive year that BJP has given a chance to the minister’s brother as chairman of the Standing Committee.

Last year, Sunil Kamble staked his claim to the post as a corporator and got elected for the fourth consecutive term. However, the party elected Yogesh Mulik as chairman of the Committee. He is the brother of BJP MLA of Vadgaonsheri, Jagdish Mulik. Now, the party has given the chance to Sunil Kamble.

In the 16-member Standing Committee, BJP has a maximum of 10 members whereas the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP) has four members and Congress and Shiv Sena have one member each.

In the Standing Committee chairman’s election, NCP gave the nomination to Smitha Kondhare. However, at the last moment, NCP withdrew Kondhare’s nomination. Therefore, Kamble got elected without any opposition.

Each year, the term of eight committee members ends and new members replace them. The BJP has 10 members out of a total of 16 members in the Standing Committee.
