Pune, 22nd June 2026: After remaining stalled for nearly two weeks, the southwest monsoon has resumed its advance across the country and has now reached parts of Maharashtra.
According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), the monsoon covered Alibaug in the Konkan region and extended up to Pune on Monday, marking a significant step forward in its progress.
The current northern limit of the monsoon passes through Alibag, Pune, Nizamabad, Dantewada, Balangir, Sundargarh, Chatra, Gaya and Muzaffarpur. Weather officials have indicated that favourable conditions are developing for further advancement of the monsoon over the next two days.
With the renewed progress, the monsoon is expected to reach Mumbai and additional parts of Maharashtra within the next 48 hours. The development comes as a relief after an extended dry spell and delayed monsoon activity across the state during the first half of June.
In Pune, weather conditions are expected to remain partly cloudy during the afternoon and evening. The city may experience light rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and lightning on Monday.
The maximum temperature is likely to hover around 37 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature is expected to remain near 25 degrees Celsius.
From Tuesday onwards, temperatures are forecast to decline slightly. The maximum temperature may drop to around 35 degrees Celsius and the minimum to 24 degrees Celsius. Cloud cover is expected to increase during the evening hours, improving the chances of rainfall and bringing some respite from the prevailing heat.
