Pune, 4th May 2026: Following the inauguration of the much-awaited ‘missing link’ project on the Mumbai-Pune Expressway, the route has witnessed a surge in tourist traffic. However, this has also led to a rise in motorists stopping their vehicles to take selfies, photos, and social media videos, prompting authorities to take strict action.
In a recent crackdown, around 50 vehicles were penalized for halting on the expressway, especially near the cable-stayed bridge and tunnels, which have become major attractions. Officials warned that stopping on a high-speed corridor poses a serious accident risk, as vehicles approach at high speeds.
The Maharashtra State Road Development Corporation (MSRDC) has made it clear that the project is designed to ensure faster and safer travel, not for tourism activities. Authorities have urged commuters not to risk their lives or others’ safety for the sake of photos or videos.
A 24x7 CCTV surveillance system has been installed across tunnels and bridges to monitor violations. Vehicles found breaking rules are immediately identified, and action is taken through highway police. Officials have confirmed that strict penalties will continue against irresponsible behaviour.
Speed limits have also been enforced on the new stretch, 100 km/h for cars and 80 km/h for buses and other passenger vehicles. Authorities have reiterated that adherence to rules is essential to ensure a safe and smooth journey on this newly developed route.
