Naga Guv meets 20 students of Nagaland studying in the city

ST CORRESPONDENT

PUNE: The Governor of Nagaland, Padmanabha Acharya, recently visited 20 Naga students studying in the city. These students have come to Maharashtra under the Governor’s initiative to provide them greater exposure to education and jobs, and are staying at Ishwarpuram hostel in Phulgaon, Haveli.

On the occasion, the Governor also provided a donation of Rs 4 lakh to Ishwarpuram. The interest received from this amount will be utilised for giving prizes to students, who excel in arts, sports and studies.

The purpose of this initiative is to ensure that children from Northeast receive proper exposure and education initially. Later, the students will be encouraged to work towards the upliftment of Northeast.

Neelkanth Joshi, Chairperson, Ishwarpuram, Vineet Kuber, Director, Mukund Godbole, and former MLA Deepak Paigude were present at the event.

‘Indians know about tourist places abroad, but many are unaware of the rich natural treasure in Northeast India. But I also suggest that we should not visit the Northeast just as tourists. To establish friendly relations with the citizens there and to provide them with opportunities for upliftment, educationalists, entrepreneurs and businessmen should contribute in the development of Northeast,’’ expressed Acharya.

Abhay Bhutda, Executive Director, Tab Capital, provided sports uniforms and sports kit to the students, while Rotary Club and Bharat Vikas Parishad provided school books and stationery.
