Pune, 25th June 2026: The special court is set to pronounce its verdict today in the rape and murder case of a three-and-a-half-year-old girl from Nasrapur. The judgment comes less than two months after the crime, making it one of the fastest trials in a rape and murder case in Maharashtra.
The incident took place on May 1, when the young girl was allegedly sexually assaulted and murdered in Nasrapur. The crime triggered widespread public outrage across the state, prompting Pune Rural Police to launch an intensive investigation. A special team was formed, and the accused was arrested soon after.
Police completed the investigation within 15 days and submitted a 1,200-page chargesheet before the court. The special court began conducting day-to-day hearings from May 21 to ensure a speedy trial.
During the proceedings, the prosecution examined more than 50 witnesses, including the victim's family members, eyewitnesses, panch witnesses, investigating officers, forensic experts and DNA analysts. After hearing the final arguments from both sides on June 20, the court reserved its judgment.
The verdict, to be delivered today, is expected to mark the conclusion of one of the fastest rape and murder trials in the state's judicial history.
