New Year's gift to Pune: BRT buses on Swargate-Katraj to resume from January 1

Pune: In a good news ahead of the New Year, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) on Wednesday decided to reopen Swargate-Katraj BRTS (Bus Rapid Transport System) from January 1.

The BRTs will be ready to ply on Swatgate-Katraj stretch from Friday, informed Pune Mayor Murlidhar Mohol. He further stated that some minor works is yet to be done but it will be done in coming four days.

The BRT project of Swargate-Katraj was halted amid multiple works from past four years."The project was delayed due to technical difficulties and other reasons but now the work is done and in next few days, the minor work will be completed too," Mayor said.

Work on the BRTS route was delayed due to election code of conduct and the construction of two major flyovers and subways. The PMC has also completed with the safety audit of the stretch.

The first BRTS in Pune city was started in 2006 along the Swargate-Katraj stretch as a pilot project. The project however was halted for years. Since then the civic body must have spent over Rs 100 crore on the project.
