Pune: ‘Thum Creative Paryavaran Dakshata Kruti Manch’ will be creating awareness among the warkaris during the palkhi to use eco-friendly leaf plates (patravali) during the palkhi procession at Alandi.

Prashant Avchat, President of the NGO, said, “Last year, we had distributed around 25 lakh patravalis among the warkaris in Alandi from which compost was prepared and it was distributed among the farmers for free. This year, the Alandi Devasthan will be distributing around 1 crore patravalis to devotees during the procession and they have given us the responsibility to collect it and make compost and distribute it to the farmers.”

“This year, we have also made the dindis aware that they should not use plastic in any form,” Avchat added.

“Also, we have told the people, who will be selling flowers and fruits during the procession to not use plastic and give away the fruits and flowers in paper bags or wrapped in leaves,” Avchat further added.
