Over 5,000 cases pending in family court

PUNE: A Right to Information (RTI) application filed with the Pune family court has revealed that there are 5,069 cases pending before the court out of which 2,723 are divorce petitions. The application was filed by RTI activist Vihar Durve. 

As per the details obtained under RTI, there were 4,833 cases pending in 2015, 4,925 in 2016 and 5,069 until now this year. 

There are five judges, which is the sanctioned strength of the judges in the family court. 

The number of mutual consent applications has increased from 508 in 2016 to 608 this year. 

The cases for custody of child were 66 in last year, which has increased to 75 this year. The petitions seeking maintenance has risen to 446 this year from 432 in 2016. 

The number of cases for recovery of maintenance amount has reduced to 559 this year from 606 last year.
