Pune: The Pune Cantonment Board (PCB) is likely to start an Industrial Training Institute (ITI) in Pune cantonment run school Dr Ambedkar Memorial High School due to rise in demand for technical courses.

The board currently provides technical course from Class 8-10. Looking at the increase in admission due to technical facilities in the school, the PCB has planned to start an ITI division in the school after Class 10.

“There is demand from parents and students to start ITI with conventional and new technology trades, as there is no such institute in Pune Cantonment,” said Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of PCB DN Yadav at a recent board meeting.

“There are technical faculties available in the school to start certain departments like carpenter, draughtsman (civil), draughtsman (mechanical), electrician, plumber, pump operator cum mechanic, information technology, computer hardware and network maintenance, etc. The total intake for each department can be around 180 students,” added Yadav.

The school has sufficient infrastructure to accommodate the institute. Also, additional land has been given to the school. The estimated cost to establish the entire unit is around Rs 81.6 lakh.
