ST CORRESPONDENT

PUNE: The Pune Cantonment Board (PCB) has decided to completely shut containment zones in its jurisdiction including Camp (MG Road), Fatima Nagar and Ghorpadi. The total number of coronavirus positive patients in the PCB area has reached 128.

PCB CEO Amit Kumar issued a public notice which states, "In exercise of the powers conferred under section 2 of the Epidemic Diseases Act, 1897 and the powers conferred under the Disaster Management Act, 2005, the Chief Secretary, Govt. of Maharashtra has issued directions to extend the lockdown till May 31, 2020, for containment of COVID-19."

Given the increasing number of cases particularly in Bhimpura, New Modikhana and nearby areas, it has been decided to observe four days complete lockdown in the Pune Cantonment area from May 19 to 22.

A further decision will be declared on or before May 22. The lockdown is being implemented in containment zones. Only medical shops will be allowed to remain open from 10 am to 1 pm and 5 pm to 8 pm. Milk booths will be allowed to remain open from 7 am to 10 am.

"The general public is requested to follow total lockdown strictly. The police department is required to make necessary arrangements for the supply of essential services like milk and vegetables from 6 am to 10 am during the lockdown period," said Kumar.
