Pune: Apart from not receiving GST share, the Pune Cantonment Board (PCB) also has several property tax defaulters due to which the cantonment is suffering heavy losses to the tune of Rs 40 crore.

Annually, the PCM should receive property tax of around Rs 50 crore to 60 crore but this year they just received the amount around Rs 20 crore only. Since as many as 5,500 property owners have not paid property tax of the year yet.

Chief Executive Officer of PCB DN Yadav told Sakal Times that the cantonment annually receives Rs 50 crore to 60 crore revenue towards property tax. But this year, the cantonment received only Rs 20 crore and last year it collected Rs 21 crore as property tax. Similarly, every month the cantonment has to shell out Rs 6.15 crore including the salary of staffers and sundry expenses.

Yadav, said, “This year the cantonment is in losses to the tune of Rs 40 crore, as nearly 5,500 property tax defaulters were identified this year. Also, not many people are using online mode to make their tax payments. Along with it, we have not received Rs 50 crore of LBT and we are also deprived of GST share from the government. That is the reason we are into huge losses this year.”

“Therefore, we might have to stop all development and maintenance work including road, garden, STP, hospital, footpath, and several others. If the government does not pay the GST share till February then we will go to high court and file a writ petition against the government.”
