PCMC Warns RMC Plants Over Pollution Violations; Non-Compliant Units May Be Sealed

Civic body asks Ready Mix Concrete plants in Pimpri-Chinchwad to follow strict pollution norms as the city’s air quality remains in the moderate category

Pune, 11 March 2026: The Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) has issued a warning to Ready Mix Concrete (RMC) plants operating within city limits to strictly follow pollution control regulations.

Civic officials said strict action, including sealing of units, will be taken against plants that fail to comply with the required norms.

The warning comes as the city’s air quality remains in the moderate category, with the Air Quality Index (AQI) recorded between 100 and 150 at monitoring stations in Pimpri-Chinchwad.

To prevent further deterioration, PCMC has directed RMC plant operators, builders and construction material suppliers to immediately implement dust and pollution control measures.

Civic officials said the Maharashtra Pollution Control Board (MPCB) introduced stricter guidelines for RMC plants last year, but several units are yet to follow them. According to officials, pollution generated by these plants has been affecting nearby residents and contributing to worsening air quality in the city.

Authorities have now decided to conduct a special drive against violators. RMC plant operators have been given a limited time to comply with the norms, after which strict action will be taken and non-compliant units may be sealed.

PCMC estimates that nearly 200 RMC plants operate across the city, including both standalone facilities and those located within construction project sites. Earlier, these plants only required permission from the MPCB.

However, due to limited enforcement against violators, it is now mandatory for them to also register with PCMC.

Officials said that around 25 to 30 RMC plants have registered with the civic body in the past six months. The remaining units that already hold MPCB permissions will have to complete their PCMC registration when they apply for renewal of their licences.
