PMC's 'Only 54 Potholes Left' Claim Questioned After Punekars Find 25 Potholes in 50 Metres

Sajag Nagrik Manch alleges ground reality contradicts civic body's claims; seeks action against officials for misleading data

Pune, 28th July 2026: Claim of Pune Municipal Corporation's (PMC) Road Department that only 54 potholes remain across the city has come under scrutiny after Sajag Nagrik Manch identified around 25 potholes within a single 50-metre stretch in Navi Peth.

The citizens' group said the findings expose a significant gap between official claims and the actual condition of city roads.

The potholes were found on the road between Vitthal Mandir and Ganjwe Chowk in Navi Peth. Following the survey, Sajag Nagrik Manch President Vivek Velankar submitted a written complaint to the Municipal Commissioner.

The complaint states that Punekars continue to face difficulties because of potholes and loose gravel left behind after poor-quality repair work. In such a situation, the civic body's claim that only a handful of potholes remain is far from the reality experienced by commuters.

Velankar questioned whether these potholes had been overlooked by the Road Department or whether they were part of the 54 potholes officially reported across the city. He said such claims create a misleading picture of Pune's road conditions and reduce public confidence in the administration.

The citizens' group has urged the Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram to personally inspect roads across the city, verify the actual situation on the ground, and initiate strict action against officials responsible for submitting inaccurate or misleading data.
