Pune, 27 June 2025: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has received ₹80 crore under the National Disaster Management Plan (NDMP) to implement urban flood control measures. Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram announced the development during a review meeting chaired by Minister of State for Urban Development Madhuri Misal at the PMC headquarters on Thursday.

Pune is among eight major cities, including Mumbai, identified by the central government as vulnerable to urban flooding. In 2023, the Centre had approved ₹250 crore for Pune under the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA), with a directive to submit a detailed mitigation plan.

“Of the sanctioned amount, PMC has now received ₹80 crore to begin work on urban flood mitigation,” said Commissioner Ram. He added that the civic body has proposed long-term projects worth ₹600 crore for comprehensive disaster management across the city.

To strengthen flood preparedness, PMC has also launched a dedicated disaster management cell. This new unit features a state-of-the-art control room and aims to coordinate disaster response efforts across all municipal departments.
