Pune, 16 July 2025: In a move to improve the quality and upkeep of roads in Pune, the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) is preparing to launch a new 'road adoption scheme' that seeks active involvement from citizens in maintaining city roads. The initiative is designed to foster public participation alongside civic authorities for better infrastructure management.

To finalize the framework for this scheme, a key meeting will be held on Wednesday at the Anna Bhau Sathe Auditorium in Padmavati. The meeting will see the presence of municipal commissioner Naval Kishore Ram, along with additional municipal commissioners Prithviraj BP and Omprakash Diwate.

Zonal commissioner Madhav Jagtap said that although the government and civic bodies undertake various development works, such projects achieve greater success when the public takes an active role. He explained that the PMC is already constructing roads, but with citizen involvement, both construction quality and long-term maintenance can improve significantly.

The upcoming meeting aims to encourage a collaborative spirit among Pune residents and create a model where road maintenance becomes a shared responsibility. Through this partnership, the PMC hopes to set a precedent for sustainable urban development driven by civic engagement.
