Pune, 13th June 2026: In view of the monsoon season, Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) Additional Commissioner (Special) Omprakash Divte has directed concerned departments to take immediate steps to address traffic bottlenecks and waterlogging issues along the Baner Road–University Chowk corridor.

Divte conducted a joint inspection of roads, Metro construction work, and traffic conditions from Hotel Green Park to University Chowk on Friday. During the visit, officials reviewed recurring problems that have affected commuters in the area, particularly during the rainy season.

Last year, heavy waterlogging at University Chowk and near Mahabaleshwar Hotel caused significant inconvenience to residents and motorists. To prevent a repeat of the situation, PMRDA and Metro authorities have been instructed to implement necessary drainage measures within four days to ensure the smooth flow of rainwater along the entire stretch.

The inspection also revealed that construction debris lying near Metro work sites at Sindh Society and National Society was obstructing traffic movement. Officials discussed several other concerns, including poorly aligned dividers, uneven road levels, damaged footpaths beneath Metro stations, reduced road width, and a blocked stormwater drain near the IISER campus. Authorities have been asked to rectify these issues on priority.

Considering the frequent movement of VVIPs through University Chowk, the water supply department has also been directed to complete ongoing excavation work near the Aundh-bound junction and restore the road within two days.

Divte stressed that Metro authorities should conduct regular joint inspections with road, drainage, and other civic departments to quickly resolve issues arising from construction activities. PMC’s regional office and drainage department have been instructed to clean stormwater drains and chambers immediately, while Metro officials have been asked to clear debris from footpaths and public spaces.

Senior civic officials, Metro representatives, PMRDA engineers, elected representatives, and project officials participated in the inspection.
