PMRDA’s budget of Rs 2,591 crore gets nod

Pune: The State government on Monday approved a budget of Rs 2,591 crore for the development work by Pune Metropolitan Regional Development Authority (PMRDA).

The budget is sanctioned for Hinjawadi-Shivajinagar Metro project, ring road, water supply, solid waste management, fire brigade services and others which is to be undertaken by PMRDA. Commissioner of PMRDA Kiran Gitte on Monday said that the budget was finalised after a meeting on Monday at Vidhan Bhavan in Mumbai which was conducted under the chairmanship of Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis.

Gitte said that a budget of Rs 1,235 crore has been approved for ring road project and Rs 888 crore for the metro project.
Besides this, Rs 152 crore for Mhalunge-Maan Township, Rs 99 crore for construction of roads and bridges in PMR region, Rs 25 crore for Wagholi area water supply, Rs 50 crore for fire brigade services in PMR region has been allocated.

PMRDA will also raise funds through loans for developing Mhalunge township. Many financial institutions have indicated readiness to lend money to PMRDA for developing basic infrastructure in the area.

“Keeping rapid urbanisation in mind, funds have been allocated for development of fire stations. PMRDA is developing a fire station at Wagholi after spending Rs 15 crore. Similarly, PMRDA took over three privately developed fire stations on a partnership basis in PMR region.” added Gitte.

Fadnavis has directed PMRDA to prepare a long-term plan for ensuring adequate water supply in Pune and also to trim the current usage of Pune district to reserve water for PMRDA.
Guardian Minister Girish Bapat, Divisional Commissioner Pune Division Chandrakant Dalvi and other officials were present.
