Pune, 10 July 2025: After three days of disrupted electricity supply, the Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company (Mahapareshan) successfully repaired a critical fault in the 220kV Infosys-Pegasus extra high voltage (EHV) transmission line on Wednesday afternoon. The restoration, completed at 12:40 PM, brought normal power supply back to Hinjawadi and nearby industrial and residential areas.
The crisis began on Sunday afternoon when a major fault developed near the Hinjawadi Metro Station during a period of scheduled maintenance. This unexpected outage severely impacted the region, affecting over 52,000 low-tension electricity consumers, 91 high-tension users, and two major extra high-tension consumers, Infosys and Nextra.
In response to the emergency, the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company (MSEDCL) worked swiftly to restore supply for most consumers using alternative routes. While Mahapareshan engineers focused on diagnosing and repairing the fault, MSEDCL implemented a round-the-clock strategy that included temporary shutdowns and rotational supply plans for large industries.
By late Sunday night, power had been restored to all low-tension users and a majority of industrial clients. By Monday afternoon, 76 out of 91 high-tension consumers were back online. However, nine large industries and two EHT clients, Nextra 1 and Nextra 2, continued to face disruptions until the original fault was resolved on Wednesday.
Behind the scenes, senior officials led a coordinated effort from Pune. Mahapareshan Director of Operations Satish Chavan, MSEDCL Chief Engineer Sunil Kakade, and Mahapareshan Chief Engineer Anil Kolap oversaw the emergency operations, deploying additional manpower and technical support to ensure timely resolution.
Describing the magnitude of the task, MSEDCL’s Sunil Kakade said, “The damage to Mahapareshan’s line was extensive, and rerouting power through other substations involved highly complex work. Despite the challenges, our engineers’ relentless efforts and the cooperation of consumers helped us restore supply without further incidents.”
The incident highlighted the vulnerabilities in critical infrastructure but also demonstrated the capacity of Maharashtra’s power agencies to manage large-scale crises through quick coordination and technical expertise.
