Pune: Prisoner Seriously Injured After Tile Attack Inside Yerwada Central Jail

Two prisoners booked for attempted murder after violent clash in prison barrack; injured is undergoing treatment at Sassoon General Hospital

Pune, 16 December 2025: In a violent incident reported inside Yerawada Central Jail; two inmates allegedly attacked another prisoner using floor tiles following an internal dispute. The victim sustained serious head injuries and is currently undergoing treatment at Sassoon General Hospital.

The injured inmate has been identified as Vishal Nagnath Kamble (28), a resident of Laxminagar, Yerawada. Based on a complaint filed by prison officer Sachin Gurav, the Yerawada police have registered a case of attempted murder against Akash Satish Chandaliya (30) of Jayjawan Nagar, Yerawada, and Deepak Sanjay Reddy (27) of Indrayani Colony, Kamshet.

According to police, all three inmates were lodged in Barrack No. 1 of the C.J. Department. Investigations revealed that Kamble had allegedly been verbally abusing and mentally harassing the two accused for the past two months, which led to repeated arguments inside the prison. The attack took place on Monday evening around 6:45 pm.

Senior police officials, including Assistant Commissioner of Police Pranjali Sonawane and Senior Inspector Anjum Bagwan, visited the jail after the incident. Further investigation is being carried out by Assistant Police Inspector Prasanna Jarhad.
