Pune: In a major breakthrough, a Pimpri Chinchwad Police team seized over 25 kilograms of ganja (marijuana) worth over Rs 6.5 lakh and arrested one person in this connection on Wednesday, said an official release by the police.
The seized ganja is worth around Rs 6.5 lakh in the market, police said. The anti-narcotics team of the Pimpri Chinchwad city police’s crime branch arrested one person as on the basis of a tip-off. The accused have been identified as Yogeshwar Gajanan Fate (23).
According to the police officials, the officials of anti-narcotics team had received information about the drug sale. The information was passed on to a team led by police inspector Shriram Pol. Acting on a tip-off, the police placed teams and arrested the person near Hinjewadi IT Park. Police Sub Inspector of Anti-Narcotics team Prashant Mahale is investigating the case further.
On Tuesday, four people were arrested and over 300 kgs of marijuana worth Rs 46 lakh was seized from in Baramati. The contraband was being smuggled from Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh and was ready for distribution in Satara and Sangli districts. A case has been registered under IPC and Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act provisions.
