Pune, 3rd August 2026: Pune Airport achieved a new milestone on Sunday (August 2) after handling a record 216 flight movements, comprising 108 arrivals and 108 departures, in a single day.
The airport also witnessed its highest-ever daily passenger footfall, with more than 33,000 travellers using its services. The achievement surpassed the previous record of 212 flight movements set on June 1, 2025.
The increase in air traffic follows the allocation of 15 additional flight slots by the Indian Air Force during the current summer schedule. The extra slots have enabled airlines to increase flight frequencies and launch services to new destinations, giving passengers more travel options and improving connectivity from Pune.
Although the airport experienced a heavy rush due to the weekend, operations remained smooth throughout the day. Airport authorities successfully managed aircraft movements without facing parking bay shortages, ensuring that no aircraft had to perform a go-around. Passengers also reported minimal inconvenience despite the record traffic.
Aviation expert Dhairyashil Wandekar said the record was made possible because of the additional flight slots provided by the Indian Air Force and the airport administration's efficient planning.
"The 15 additional slots allotted by the Indian Air Force, along with precise operational planning by the airport administration, made it possible for Pune Airport to handle a record 216 flight movements in a single day. More importantly, achieving this milestone without facing parking bay constraints reflects the airport's growing operational efficiency. The increase in flights has also significantly improved convenience and connectivity for passengers," Wandekar said.
