Pune, 22nd June 2026: From today vehicular movement on Bhide Bridge has been suspended as Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation (Maha Metro) commenced construction of a pedestrian cable bridge connecting Deccan Metro Station with surrounding areas. The bridge will remain completely closed to all vehicles from June 22 to July 6.
The Pune Traffic Police said the closure is essential for carrying out the footbridge construction work safely and efficiently. The project is part of the ongoing Metro infrastructure development aimed at improving pedestrian connectivity around the station.
Due to the closure, commuters travelling between Deccan and central Pune are likely to face traffic diversions. Authorities have advised motorists to plan their journeys in advance and use alternate routes to avoid delays and congestion.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Traffic) Dr. Sandeep Bhajibhakare appealed to citizens to cooperate with the temporary traffic arrangements. He said the restrictions have been imposed to ensure public safety while enabling the smooth execution of the Metro-related work.
Traffic authorities further stated that Bhide Bridge will reopen for vehicular movement during daytime hours after July 6. However, from July 7 until further notice, the bridge will remain closed every night between 11 pm and 6 am.
Use Tilak Road for travel between Deccan and central Pune.
Use S.M. Joshi Bridge as an alternative crossing over the Mutha River.
Use Omkareshwar Bridge to access areas around Shaniwar Peth and central city locations.
Motorists travelling towards Lakdi Pul and Swargate can use nearby connecting roads via Tilak Road.
Commuters heading towards Shivajinagar and Deccan Gymkhana are advised to use alternate city roads through S.M. Joshi Bridge.
Follow traffic diversion signs and instructions issued by Pune Traffic Police for other nearby route options during the closure period.
