The drill was carried out to assess the preparedness of emergency services, such as the availability of ambulances, bomb disposal teams, and evacuation protocols. The exercise caused significant traffic congestion on Fergusson Road and Karve Road, resulting in lengthy delays in the afternoon.

Authorities had previously barricaded the section from Khandojibaba Chowk to Fergusson College, and ongoing repairs on Garware Bridge exacerbated the traffic congestion. The situation became more chaotic when rumours of a 'blast' circulated, but officials later clarified that it was a scheduled safety exercise.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Special Branch) Sandeep Bhajibakhare stated that the mock drill was essential for evaluating security protocols and ensuring an appropriate reaction in emergency situations. He advised the public to remain calm and not to trust rumours, confirming that no actual incident had taken place.
