In a troubling case from Maharashtra, two brothers allegedly assaulted their elderly parents amid a dispute over the sale of land in Pune.
The two brothers allegedly assaulted their elderly parents on the evening of August 30, reportedly enraged over the sale of land owned by their mother in Pune, news agency PTI reported on Wednesday, citing police.
The incident took place in Tarangwadi village in Indapur tehsil.
According to a complaint, 65-year-old farmer Tukaram Raut and his ailing wife Anjana were allegedly beaten by their two sons with wooden sticks during a dispute over a land transaction.
The complainant, a resident of Indapur, reported that the incident occurred while he and his wife were out for a walk. Their two sons, who live separately with their families in Malwadi, Indapur, arrived at the location in a car and confronted the couple.
The complaint states that the sons confronted their parents over the sale of land registered in Anjana’s name. As the dispute intensified, the two allegedly attacked their elderly parents with wooden sticks.
According to the police, the accused also verbally abused the couple and threatened to kill them if the land sale was not revoked. Police further reported that a case has been filed at the Indapur police station against the sons under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita.
The report states that the complainant suffered injuries to his face, shoulder, back, and thighs, while his wife sustained wounds to her wrist and waist. An officer said that, after locals alerted the authorities, the injured couple was transported to the Sub-District Hospital in Indapur.
