Pune, 9th July 2026: A cable businessman from Dhayari was allegedly cheated of ₹40 lakh after being lured into investing in a construction project with the promise that his money would double within three years.
Based on a complaint filed by the 45-year-old businessman, Yogesh Ambadas Deshpande (46), a resident of Erandwane, has been booked by Chaturshringi Police on charges of cheating.
According to police, the complainant sold his land in Manchar in August 2020 and received ₹70 lakh. Looking to invest the amount, he was introduced to Deshpande, a builder, through a relative.
Deshpande allegedly convinced him to invest in a construction project, assuring him that the investment would double in three years. Trusting the offer, the complainant transferred ₹40 lakh to the accused's bank account via RTGS.
After the promised three-year period ended, the businessman repeatedly approached Deshpande for the return of his investment and the promised profits. Police said the accused initially avoided the requests and later refused to repay the money altogether.
Realising that he had been cheated, the complainant approached the police and lodged a complaint. Police Sub-Inspector Snehal Patil is conducting further investigation into the case.
