Pune, 26 March 2026: The Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) has introduced new restrictions on construction activities across the city to control rising air and noise pollution.

As per the latest directive issued on Wednesday, construction work will now be permitted only between 7 AM and 9 PM.

The decision comes amid growing concerns over deteriorating air quality and increasing noise levels due to large-scale construction projects, including private and government developments, as well as cement concrete plants. Citizens had raised multiple complaints about health issues caused by early morning and late-night construction work.

Civic officials, including Mayor Manjusha Nagpure and Municipal Commissioner Naval Kishore Ram, had earlier assured strict measures to tackle pollution. Acting on this, the city engineer’s office has enforced time restrictions specifically targeting pollution caused by construction activities.

Authorities stated that continuous construction work beyond permitted hours was significantly impacting the Air Quality Index and disturbing residents living nearby. The new rule is aimed at protecting public health and improving environmental conditions in the city.

Aniruddha Pawaskar, City Engineer at PMC, said, “Due to ongoing construction activities, both noise and air pollution have increased significantly, causing inconvenience to residents. Therefore, all construction work within PMC limits must strictly be carried out only between 7 AM and 9 PM.”

The civic body has warned builders and contractors to follow the guidelines strictly, failing which action may be taken.
