Pune 10 December 2025: In a reformative step, court has ordered two men accused of creating a public disturbance while drunken to perform community service instead of undergoing imprisonment. The accused were directed to complete a total of four days of community service, dedicating three hours each day. Their work will be monitored by senior officials of the Shivajinagar Police Station.

As part of their punishment, they will assist traffic police at busy junctions, participate in cleanliness drives at the police station, or carry out other civic duties assigned by probation officers.

The incident took place on December 2, when both men were found causing a disturbance in an intoxicated state near the Pune Municipal Corporation building. A case was subsequently registered at the Shivajinagar Police Station.

When produced before the court, both accused admitted to their offence. The prosecution, represented by Public Prosecutor Shridhar Jaware, sought strict punishment. However, the defence argued that this was their first offence and assured the court that such behaviour would not be repeated.

After hearing both sides, the court chose a corrective approach and awarded community service instead of jail time, highlighting the importance of reform over punishment for first-time offenders.
