Pune, 10 February 2026: In a shocking incident reported from the Nana Peth area of Pune, a 15-year-old girl gave birth to a child inside her home without any medical assistance or adult supervision.
The gravity of the situation was heightened by the fact that the teenager, left to navigate the labour alone, reportedly used her own means to cut the new-born's umbilical cord. The matter came to light on January 31 when the girl’s elder sister arrived at the family home to find the door locked from the inside.
After numerous attempts to get a response, the girl eventually let her brother and sister in. Upon entering, the family was met with a troubling scene, observing bloodstains on the floor and near the doorway. To their surprise, they found a new-born baby placed by a window.
When her siblings asked about what had happened, the girl revealed that she had gone into labour while alone at home and had successfully delivered the baby on her own.
When asked how the medical procedure was handled, the minor admitted to her siblings, "I delivered the baby myself and cut the umbilical cord on my own." Alarmed by her physical state and the risks to the infant, the family immediately rushed both the mother and the new-born to a nearby hospital. Medical professionals are currently providing treatment to both, and their conditions are reportedly being monitored closely by the authorities.
Following the discovery, the victim disclosed that she had been in a relationship with 24-year-old Adil Farukh Sheikh for approximately one year. She stated that Sheikh, a resident of the Golden City Building in New Nana Peth, had established physical relations with her on multiple occasions between March 2025 and January 2026.
The minor's family has alleged that the accused took advantage of her while she was often left alone at home due to family work schedules.
Based on the complaint filed by the girl's elder sister, the Samarth Police have registered an official case against Adil Sheikh under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. The charges include repeated sexual assault of a minor and luring her under false pretences.
Police Sub-Inspector Nikita Uike is currently leading the investigation to ensure all legal proceedings are followed and the victim receives justice.
