Pune witnessed another disturbing incident, last night, just days after the Nasrapur rape and murder case, as an attempted assault on a 9-year-old girl near the foothills of Parvati created panic and anger among residents. The incident has once again raised concerns about child safety in the city.
According to preliminary information, a man believed to be around 50 years old allegedly attempted to assault the minor. However, nearby residents noticed the incident in time and immediately intervened, helping rescue the girl safely before any further harm could occur. The accused was later taken into custody by the police.
Soon after the incident came to light, a large number of residents gathered near the police station and surrounding roads, including the stretch between Parvati foothills and Navi Peth. Protesters demanded strict punishment and quick legal action against the accused.
The situation in the area turned tense as crowds continued to gather outside the police station. Police officials appealed to citizens to maintain peace and assured them that the matter would be handled according to the law.
Senior police officers, including Pune Joint Commissioner of Police Ranjan Kumar Sharma, reached the spot to review the situation. Heavy police deployment was carried out to control the crowd and maintain order.
Police sources said the suspect is currently in custody and further investigation is underway. Authorities have not officially confirmed additional claims circulating locally regarding the identity or relationship of the accused.
