Pune, 22nd June 2026: A dramatic confrontation unfolded in Ramtekdi on Sunday morning when a police team was attacked while attempting to arrest accused persons linked to a criminal case.
Assistant Police Inspector Ganesh Raikar sustained injuries during the incident and was forced to open fire in self-defence, leaving one accused injured.
According to police, API Raikar and his team from Baner Police Station had reached Anand Nagar in Ramtekdi at around 6 am to apprehend suspects wanted in a criminal case. On spotting the police, the accused allegedly tried to flee on a motorcycle and attempted to ram the vehicle into the police personnel.
During the chase, Karan Singh Rajput Singh Dudhani (29), a resident of Ramtekdi, allegedly attacked API Raikar with a sharp weapon in an effort to evade arrest. As the situation escalated and posed a threat to his safety, Raikar fired a single round from his service revolver towards the accused's leg. The bullet struck Dudhani, injuring him.
Police said that even after being shot, Dudhani allegedly used a blade to inflict injuries on himself and threatened to take his own life. He also reportedly attempted to snatch the officer's revolver. The police team eventually overpowered and detained him.
Following a complaint lodged by API Ganesh Raikar, Wanawadi Police have registered a case against the accused on charges including attempt to murder and obstructing a public servant from discharging official duties. Dudhani is currently undergoing treatment at Sassoon General Hospital under police custody.
Meanwhile, his associate, Bintu Singh Shyam Singh Kalyani (30), managed to escape from the spot and remains absconding. Police teams have launched a search operation to trace and arrest him. Further investigation into the case is being carried out by Police Inspector (Crime) Kailas Daberao.
