Pune, 3rd July, 2025: The Maharashtra State Women’s Commission has taken suo motu cognizance of the shocking rape incident in Kondhwa and has sought an immediate report from the Pune City Police. The Commission has also directed the police to expedite the investigation and ensure the prompt arrest of the accused.
The case involves a woman who was sexually assaulted in her apartment in Kondhwa after a man, pretending to be a courier delivery agent, allegedly sprayed a chemical on her face to immobilize her before committing the crime. The disturbing nature of the incident has triggered widespread concern about safety and security in residential societies.
In a letter to the Pune Police Commissioner, the Commission expressed serious concern over media reports about the incident and urged the police to leave no stone unturned in identifying and apprehending the perpetrator.
It has invoked its authority under Sections 10(1)(f)(a) and 10(2) of the Maharashtra State Women’s Commission Act, 1993, and asked for a thorough investigation, including a review of CCTV footage from the housing society and possible lapses in security that may have enabled the assault.
Calling the matter extremely serious, the Commission emphasized the need for a rapid and coordinated search operation, stating that any delay in action would be unacceptable. It also confirmed that the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 5) has been contacted directly by phone to ensure immediate compliance with its instructions.
Additionally, the Commission has instructed the police to submit a detailed factual report under Sections 12(2) and 12(3) of the Act as soon as possible. Meanwhile, Pune Police has launched an intensive manhunt to trace the suspect, with several teams deployed to track his movements.
