Municipal Commissioner has granted administrative approval for the project, and the proposal has now been placed before the Standing Committee. The demolition process is expected to begin soon after approval.

The multi-level mechanical parking facility was built at a cost of around ₹2.5 crore to address parking shortages in the busy JM Road area. However, the facility stopped functioning within a few years because of inadequate maintenance and repairs.

Over time, the steel structure developed extensive corrosion, raising safety concerns for visitors and commuters. A technical assessment by the civic body concluded that restoring the facility would require significant investment, while the expected revenue would not justify the expenditure.

Based on this assessment, PMC decided to remove the structure instead of repairing it.

PMC invited bids for the demolition work on May 19, 2026, and received seven tenders. Sparktech Engineering submitted the lowest eligible bid and has been recommended for the contract.

The proposal seeks approval to award the demolition work at a rate of ₹29,000 per metric tonne, including GST, for dismantling and removing the corroded steel structure. Once the Standing Committee grants its approval, PMC will initiate the demolition work.
