Pune: Maharashtra deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar on Friday morning reviewed the ongoing construction work of Pune Metro. Ajit Pawar who is also the Guardian Minister of Pune visited construction sites in the early hours on Friday and took stock of the work from Metro officials.

Ajit Pawar visited the Metro sites of Pune Station, Vanaz, Shivajinagar and also held discussion with Metro Chief Brijesh Dixit. Senior officials from the Pune Metro were present at the meeting. Last week, the Guardian Minister of Pune Pawar gave a surprise visit at early hours to inspect the Metro work at Pimpri.

The Pune Metro project, which was probable to begin the operation of its first five-km stretch by April 2020, had passed the deadline due to the suden lockdown imposed to prevent the spread of COVID-19 across the nation.

Maha Metro Rail Corporation had recommenced work on the Pune Metro rail project in May after getting nod from the state government and civic bodies following the easing of coronavirus lockdown restrictions.

The work on Pune Metro project, which includes of two lines of 32 km, had started in December 2016 and was expected to finish by the end of 2022. However, work was stopped for over a month amid the lockdown imposed in view of the coronavirus crisis.
