Pune, 9 July 2025: In response to the rising number of tourists visiting Pune city and surrounding areas during weekends and holidays, the Pune district administration has initiated plans to centralize all tourism-related information into a single mobile application. This app will include comprehensive details on tourist spots, including their locations, directions, transportation options, visiting slots, and entry fees.
The initiative comes in the wake of past incidents, including a recent tragedy at the Kundmala bridge in Maval taluka, where overcrowding led to fatalities. Such incidents have highlighted the need for better infrastructure, crowd control, and planning at popular tourist destinations. To address these concerns, the district administration has developed a tourism development blueprint, which includes the creation of this mobile application.
Pune district is home to a diverse range of attractions, from forts, dams, hills, and grasslands to caves and heritage sites. Its strong connectivity attracts not only domestic travellers but also tourists from other states and abroad. However, until now, there has been no unified source offering complete and accurate information about these destinations.
Tourists often struggle to find reliable information regarding transport facilities, accommodation, food services, and other essential amenities. This lack of centralized data has occasionally led to confusion and even exploitation of travellers. The new app aims to eliminate such issues by serving as a trusted, one-stop solution for planning trips within the district.
The app will cover all 138 tourist destinations in Pune district, providing details about their unique features and available sports or adventure facilities. Development work for the app is already underway, and the tender process is expected to be completed soon. Authorities have targeted a launch date in January, by which time all relevant data will be integrated into the platform.
